Corkwood Genus Details
Leitneria is a small native shrub or tree found in the southeastern U.S. in wet areas. They grow to 20 feet tall with leaves 3-6 inches long, shiny green on top and paler underneath. The flowers are tiny and crowded, covered with pointed hairy brown scales in early spring before the leaves appear. The fruit, called drupes, are 3/4 inch long and brown in color. The wood is used for fish net floats and bottle stoppers.
